The principal reesort of the Mediterranean is the lovely port of Antalya, magnificently situated atop the cliffs and surrounded by the towering peaks of the Taurus mountains. It is an attractive town with shady palm lined boulevards, picturesque old quarters and harbour and lovely city parks. There are many modern hotels in the town and it is an ideal base from which to visit the ancient sites of Lycia and Pamphylia and the shady pine woods, waterfalls and spacious beaches in the immediate vicinity.

In summer, Antalya hosts an annual festival featuring artistic and dramatic groups, folk dances and music. 

Antalya:
Antalya is Turkey's principal holiday resort city in the Mediterranean embodying the contrast between the majestic coastline of beaches and rocky coves and towering Taurus Mountains. It is an attractive city with shady palm-lined boulevards, a prize-winning marina, beautiful parks, historical buildings and monuments and the picturesque old quarter, Kaleici.  With its narrow winding streets and old wooden houses from ottoman era, Kaleici is a point of attraction for the visitors. When Emperor Hadrian visited Antalya in 130 A.D. a beautifully decorated three arched gate was built into the city walls in his honor (Hadrian’s Gate). The clock tower in Kalekapisi Square was also part of the old city's fortifications. Republic Square with its dramatic statue and perfect views of the Mediterranean and the distant mountains is worth seeing.

Antalya Archaeological Museum:
Antalya Archaeological Museum, with remains from the Paleolithic Age to Ottoman times, offers a glimpse of the area's rich history. It is one of Turkey's largest museums housing 13 exhibition halls and an open air gallery. As a museum exhibiting examples of works, which illuminate the history of the Mediterranean and Pamphylia regions in Anatolia, Antalya Museum is one of the most important of Turkey's museums.
